These original gas tank straps were wire wheeled, etched and then painted. They were also lined with lengths of mohair to eliminate the metal-to-metal contact between them and the new gas tank. This should prevent rust there. A separate ground was run to the tank for the sending unit, since the original used the ground through the tank and straps.
